Verona Duomo + My Favorites
Verona's Duomo incorporates many different architectural and historical influences, due to the span of time in which it was constructed. Tours of the Cathedral will reveal its internal splendour, made up of frescoes and other paintings. Address: Piazza Duomo 21 | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 595627
San Fermo Maggiore + My Favorites
Dating back to the 8th century, the San Fermo Maggiore went through renovations in the 11th century, with the bell tower added much later, in the 13th century. Inside, the church is made up of several chapels. The Nichesola Chapel delights visitors with its marble statues, while the Brenzoni Chapel is equally alluring with an amazing altar, tombs, statues and more. In the Chapel of the Agonizzanti there is a crucificxion by Brusasorzi. Address: Via Dogana 2 | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 8007287
Sant'Anastasia + My Favorites
Commissioned by the Scala family around 1290, in all, the Sant'Anastasia church took over a century to complete and the architect still unknown. Sections of the church were removed, during the Napoleonic pillage, but restorations have succeeded in saving the rest of it from the ravages of time. Employed in mostly Gothic style, this church has become one of the most important Gothic churches in Verona. Address: Piazza Santa Anastasia | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 8004325
San Giovanni in Foro + My Favorites
The exact construction date of the San Giovanni in Foro is unknown, but has been estimated around the 12th century. Visitor highlights include the Reniassance door, sculpted by Gerolamo Giolfino and a base relief of the Madonna with Child. Address: Vic. San Giovanni in Foro, 1 | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 8009496
Santa Maria Antica Church + My Favorites
This Veronese-Romanesque style church was originally built in the 7th Century AD. In 1185 it was almost entirely rebuilt in 1185, remodeled in the early 17th century to reflect Baroque style and returned to its original state at the end of the 19th century. At one time the church became the private chapel of the Scala family, who built their family cemetery in the courtyard. Address: Via Santa Maria Antica | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 595508
San Lorenzo + My Favorites
This Romanesque style church, built in 1110, replaced earlier Christian building erected on the site in the fifth and sixth century. Using some of the materials from the earlier buildings, the church holds the rare and precious women's galleries and large cylindrical towers. Architectural details include an amazing red marble door embellished by Renaissance arches. Address: Corso Cavour | Verona, VR Tel: +39 (0) 45 8001879
